How does Credit Card verification work?

This is a way you can prove your identity for EchoLink validation. You provide us with a credit card number, and the system will try to post a nominal charge ($1.00) to your card, supplying the card number and the name and address that is on file with the FCC for null. If the transaction is approved, part of the response from your bank to our system will indicate whether the name and address we gave is an exact match for the information you have on file with your credit card company. If it is, we can be reasonably certain that the request is truly coming from the licensee of null.

I'm sure that my billing address is correct, but I still got an error message when I tried it.

There are several reasons why the two addresses might not be verified. If the spelling of your street address is slightly different, or if one or both of the addresses is a P.O. box or apartment number, the system might not be able to match them up. Or, it's possible that the bank that issued your credit card doesn't support this feature.

I just moved, and I updated my billing address. Why is my old address still shown above?

The address shown above is the address from the latest FCC database record for null. If it is not correct, you will need to contact the FCC to update your address. In the meantime, you can go back and choose a different method of validation for EchoLink.

Why do you need to charge a $1.00 fee?

There are two reasons. The first is that $1 is the minimum amount that can be authorized on a credit card. The second is that there is a small transaction fee charged to us for each card number verification we request. However, we will not actually charge your credit card if the address match doesn't succeed.
